Slow cooker turkey chili

Best Turkey Chili Recipe (Smokin’ and Grillin’ with AB)

What’s up, everybody? Welcome back to the channel! As it starts to get cooler out there, it’s the perfect time to cook up some hearty and delicious turkey chili. This chili is super easy to make and packed with flavor, and the secret is in the homemade seasoning mix. Trust me, this is the best turkey chili you’ll ever have. Let’s dive in!

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds ground turkey (lean turkey, but you can use beef if you prefer)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or any cheese you like, optional for topping)
  • 1/4 cup green onions (for garnish)
  • Homemade chili seasoning mix (I’ll put the recipe in the description box below)
  • 1 can kidney beans (30 oz)
  • 2 cans tomato sauce (8 oz each)
  • 1 can diced tomatoes with green chiles (10 oz, two cans for 20 oz total)
  • 1/2 cup diced onions (optional: use more if you like a stronger onion flavor)
  • Homemade Chili Seasoning (for 1 batch):
  • Chili powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Cumin
  • Paprika
  • Oregano

Instructions:

Brown the Ground Turkey:

  • Heat up a little oil in a cast-iron skillet.
  • Add the ground turkey to the skillet and cook until it’s browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  • Season the turkey with your homemade chili seasoning mix. If using store-bought chili powder, that works too, but the homemade blend adds more depth and flavor.
  • Stir the turkey so it gets fully coated in the seasoning and let the flavors meld.

Transfer to the Crock Pot:

  • Once your turkey is cooked, transfer it into your crock pot.
  • This will start smelling like taco heaven!
  • Add the Ingredients to the Crock Pot:
  • Drain and rinse the kidney beans, then add them to the crock pot.
  • Pour in the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes with green chiles.
  • Add the diced onions (optional). You can use up to a whole cup if you love onions, but I usually stick to half a cup or so.

Let It Cook:

  • Cover the crock pot and cook the chili on high for about 2 to 3 hours.
  • Don’t lift the lid while it’s cooking – you know the saying: “If you’re looking, you’re not cooking!”

Check and Stir:

  • After 2.5 hours, check the chili to see how it’s coming along. Give it a stir, and if it’s nice and thick, you’re all set!
  • Taste it and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Serve and Garnish:

  • Once done, serve the chili in bowls.
  • Top with shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and green onions.
  • Pair with cornbread for the ultimate comfort meal!

Enjoy:

You won’t believe how good turkey chili can taste! The homemade seasoning mix takes it to the next level.

Final Thoughts:

This turkey chili is perfect for cooler weather, and using ground turkey gives it a leaner twist. It’s easy to make, super flavorful, and will warm you up on the chilliest days. And hey, if you’re not a fan of beans, feel free to leave them out.
