Lightened Up Egg Salad Recipe
Healthy Egg Salad Recipe with Greek Yogurt
This recipe gives a healthy twist to the classic egg salad. Instead of using mayonnaise, it uses Greek yogurt. This makes the salad lighter and gives you more protein—great if you’re focusing on health, fitness, or weight loss!

Step 1: Cook Perfect Hard-Boiled Eggs
The most important part of egg salad is the eggs. Here’s how to make perfect hard-boiled eggs that are easy to peel:
- Take the eggs out of the fridge 15 minutes before boiling them. This helps stop them from cracking in hot water.
- Boil a pot of water.
- Carefully add the eggs into the boiling water, one by one. Use as many eggs as will fit in one layer in the pot (for this recipe, use 8 eggs).
- Boil the eggs for 9–12 minutes. I like mine at 10 minutes.
- Move the eggs into ice water right after boiling. Let them sit for 10 minutes to cool down.
- Peel and chop the eggs. You can cut them chunky or smaller depending on what you like.
👉 Tip: To make this even healthier, you can use some egg whites instead of whole eggs. Two egg whites = one whole egg.
Step 2: Chop the Veggies and Herbs
Now get your veggies and herbs ready:
- Red onion: Dice a few tablespoons. Slice it small like a tic-tac-toe board.
- Celery: Cut it into thin strips, then chop into small pieces.
- Fresh herbs: Use parsley, dill, chives, or tarragon. Just 2 tablespoons will make the salad taste fresh and yummy.
Step 3: Mix the Egg Salad
Time to put everything together:
- Add your chopped eggs to a bowl.
- Add the diced onion, celery, and herbs.
- Add 1/4 cup of plain Greek yogurt (2% fat is perfect).
- Add a few teaspoons of lemon juice, a pinch of sea salt, and pepper to taste.
- Gently mix everything together until it’s creamy and well-blended.

Step 4: Enjoy or Store for Later
This healthy egg salad is great for meal prep too! Just put it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. It will stay fresh for 3–4 days.
You can enjoy it:
- On its own, with a spoon
- With crackers
- On toast or a sandwich with some greens

Final Tip
If you like tuna salad too, try mixing tuna and egg salad together! It’s delicious.
